Alfred D. Brown

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Sweetwater C.M.E. Church for Mr. Alfred Dewayne Brown, 55, who died Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at his residence.  Rev. Charlton Johnson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Alfred Brown was born to the late Henry Sr. and Mattie Mae Brown in Jefferson Davis County.  He joined Sweetwater Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as treasurer and member of the male chorus. He was a 1984 graduate of Bassfield High School.

Mr. Brown was married to Shelia Jones and to this union, one child was born. He had strong work ethics that he implemented at A. F. Caraway Store for 39 years and the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff Department for 14 years as a jailor.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Brown Jr. and Lawrence Brown and one sister, Louise Drones.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Shelia Jones Brown; son, Wesley Brown; goddaughter, Jon’ta Brown; four sisters, Edna (Charles) Nelson and Bertha Battle both of Detoit, Michigan; Georgia Buckner of Henderson, North Carolina and Natalie Thompson of Bassfield; five brothers, Joseph (Dez) Brown of Detroit, Michigan, John (Linda) Brown of Hattiesburg, Roy (Francine) Brown, Sammy (Jean) Brown and McArthur (Barbara) Brown all of Bassfield; two nephews who grew up as brothers, Steve Buckner of Bridgeport, Texas and Sylvester Buckner of Henderson, North Carolina; extended family, Lynn (Mike) Miller of Prentiss; Browyn (Randy) Dyess of Petal; Colleen (Ray) Powell of Bassfield; Sean (Tressa) Burns of Columbia; family friend, Willie (Wanda) Ard of Carson and  many other relatives and friends.
