The Jefferson Davis County Economic Development District Board of Directors and the Town of Bassfield Board of Alderman announce the opening of a medical marijuana grow facility in the equine factory building in Bassfield.
Divine Farma is a plant-based medicine company focused on cannibas. Partners Willie Ard & Travis Burkett Smith, both of Carson, and Gilbert Green of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, share over 50 years of experience in the commercial pharmaceutical industry.
The fully outfitted warehouse on Bass-Burkett Road will encompass around 36,000 square feet of canopy. In addition to hiring 30 employees at a good living wage, the company also has a vested interest in moving Bassfield and Jefferson Davis County forward. They are an integral part of the resurrection and revitalization of the HBCU- Prentiss Institute as well as helping to develop a genealogical library and museum.
“This is a best-case scenario for Bassfield and surrounding communities that will benefit from these jobs and added tax revenue,” said Gary Russell Bass, Jeff Davis County Economic Development District Director
Divine Farma’s sister company, THP-Medical currently grows, manufacturers and markets industrial hemp for medical grade CBD products to physicians and the public. Future goals are to bring industrial hemp opportunities to local farmers and landowners.
