Funeral services were held Friday, April 29, 2022 at South Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for Mr. James Davis (Pete) Sands, 66, who died Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital.  Rev. Roy Thompson officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Sands was born to the late Lovell and Inez Sands. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and later moved his membership South Pleasant Baptist Church.  He attended Oakley School and J. E. Johnson. He later moved to Chicago and later relocated to Gulfport, Mississippi. After moving to Prentiss, he worked at Polk’s Meat, Lee’s Pigskin and S & D Farms.

Mr. Sands was married to the late Ethel Mae Williams and to this union, two children were born, David and Kireea.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Sands, step-son, James Williams; three brothers, James C. Sands, Calvin Sands and John Sands; sister, Mary Sands.

He is survived by his daughter, Kireea Sands; step-daughter, Sarah (Raymon) Williams; step-son, Edward (Ceyann) Williams; 12 grandchildren; four sisters, Lillie Sands, Minnie Sands, Minnie (Calvin) Coleman and Kathy (Lewis) Armstrong all of Prentiss, MS; many other relatives and friends.
