The month of April is known as the Month of the Military Child, with April 30 being National Military Brats Day.  Both events emphasizing the important role military children play in the armed forces community

The JDC MSU Extension Service, JDC Veterans Service Officer Sgt. Joe Bridges and NAACP Veteran Committee 5326 recognized the students in all schools in Jefferson Davis County April 21 and honored those children of military personnel.

Twelve students were recognized at J. E. Johnson Elementary, three at Prentiss Christian, 16 at Jefferson Davis County High School and six at G. W. Carver Elementary. All students received gifts, gift bags, certificates and a purple cupcake.

“It was very nice to be able to do a little something for the youth and the communities we serve,” said Latonya Ramsey-Chandler, MSU Extension Agent II.

Other partners contributing were JDC Save the Children, MAPS Military Station, JDC Parent Center Coordinator and the Jefferson Davis County Tobacco Coalition.
