Summer is around the corner and that means it is time for the 2022 Summer Reading Program at the Prentiss and Bassfield public libraries.

The 2022 theme is oceanography with the slogan of Oceans of Possibilities for all age groups.

“Our popular stores will be available both libraries this summer so, you can read and earn reward bucks to spend at either library,” said Jefferson Davis County Library Supervisor Jackie Miller.

Kicking off the summer program will be Magician Dorian Lachance when he presents 20,000 Laughs Under the Sea. Kids will enjoy a magic show that features amazing magic, hilarious comedy, and some funny puppet friends. “There will be lots of surprises as Dorian and Finn the Shark tell everyone about life and adventure under the ocean. You don’t want to miss this terrific show,” said Miller. Lachance will be at the Academic Success Center in Carson June 7 at 4 p.m.

Other programs include game days, Oceans Adventures by the JDC MSU Extension Office, giant water slides at each location and a trip to the Mississippi Aquarium. All programs are for the children in Jefferson Davis County and are free of charge. Please follow both libraries on Facebook at Dr. Frank L. Leggett and at Prentiss Public Library for a schedule of events and keep up with all the fun activities throughout summer.

Information can also be obtained by visiting the Prentiss Public Library at 2229 Pearl Avenue in Prentiss or call 601-792-5845. The Dr. Frank L. Leggett Library is located at 261-A General Robert E. Blount Drive in Bassfield and can be reached at 601-943-5420.
