David Anderson, age 74, entered his eternal rest on July 12, 2022, with his wife and children by his side.

Visitation was held Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the funeral service on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 2 p.m. all at Hulett Winstead Funeral Home in Sumrall. Burial followed at Sullivan-Anderson Cemetery in the Bethel community.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1948, the eighth of nine children born to Hulon and Annie Maude Hudson Anderson of Bassfield. He grew up on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work and Christian service. His parents also stressed the importance of education in which he excelled. He graduated from Bassfield High School in 1966 and earned his civil engineering degree from Mississippi State University in 1970. He later received his MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi. He began his career at USM, where he worked for almost 34 years, first as an engineer and eventually as associate vice-president. After leaving USM, he began working in Jackson with Mississippi’s Department of Finance and Administration as state building commissioner and later as deputy executive director until he “retired” in 2011.

David’s love for farm work never ended, and he could be found in their garden at various times throughout the day – from dawn, to the middle of the day, to dusk. He was generous with the bounty of his garden, sharing with friends and neighbors. In addition to his official roles with the State, he had a general contracting service, performing land surveys, house inspections and renovations of all sorts.

David loved the Lord Jesus Christ first, followed by his family, friends and neighbors. A deacon at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Sumrall, his life was a living testament of the greatest commandment found in Matthew 22: 37-40.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Hulon & Annie Maude Anderson; two brothers, Kelton Anderson and John Anderson; his sister, Joyce Martin and one sister-in-law, Judy Anderson.

He is survived by his soulmate of 54 years, Lynette Williamson Anderson; his children,  Lanise Aultman (Tim), Christi Holloway (Homer), Ric Anderson (Loretta) and Kelly Anderson (Nuran); three exchange students whom he loved as daughters, Zuzana Svakova of Slovakia, Isabelle Levesque of Canada and Marcia Lauar of Brazil; his grandchildren, Ashten Holloway, Matthew Aultman (Laurie), Seth Holloway, Caleb Aultman, Alexis Holloway, Brianna Aultman, Jon Michael Aultman, Brennan Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Connor Anderson and Jaren Anderson; one great-grandchild, Stella Allen; his five brothers, Kermit Anderson (Jerri), Eugene Anderson (Carlene), Cecil Anderson (Vivian), Hershel Anderson (Jo), and Danny Anderson; a brother-in-law, Ken Martin; two sisters-in-law,  Myrtle Anderson and Louise Anderson and a host of nieces and nephews.

David’s grandsons served as pallbearers for his service.
