Mattie Garner

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Prentiss for Mrs. Mattie Ruth Garner, 77, who died Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.  Brother Clarence Barnes officiated with interment following in Polk Cemetery in Prentiss. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie Ruth Garner was born to Oscar and Wencie Longino. She dedicated her life as one of Jehovah’s Witness in 1977 and remained faithful until her passing.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles Longino, Taylor Longino, D. B. Longino, Ozie Longino and Carl J. Longino; five sisters, Lucile, Nomia Wilson, Doris Longino, Roberta Spikes and Velma Longino Shows.

She was married to the late George Garner for 55 years and to this union, thirteen children were born whom she leaves to mourn her passing, ten sons: Glynn (Corine) Garner of Sumrall; Lynn (Michele) Garner of Prentiss; Willie Charles (Jackie) of Monticello; Willie Glynn (Anita) Garner, Cornell (Kathy) Garner, Vernell (Maria) Garner, Darnell (April) Garner and Tracy (Melissa) Garner all of Silver Creek; George (Fannie) Garner of Hammond, Louisiana; Calvin (April C.) Garner of Memphis, Tennessee; three daughters, Linda (Anthony) Owens and Yolanda (Altorezz) Garner both of Silver Creek; Charlene (Kemp) Garner of Fluker, Louisiana; 66 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
