SMPDD awards scholarships to JDCHS graduates

The Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, Inc. (SMPDD) awarded college scholarships to two Jefferson Davis County High School students during a board of supervisors meeting Monday.

Receiving $1000 scholarships to Pearl River Community College are Shanya Rogers and Demarrio Booth Jr.

Rogers is the daughter of Lastephen and Sabrina Rogers Prentiss. She will be majoring in Business Administration at PRCC.

Booth is the son of Demarrio and Cheoka Booth of Bassfield and is majoring in Electrical Technology.

“We are so thankful to the SMPDD for providing these scholarships for our students in Jefferson Davis County,” said JDC Board President Bobby Rushing. “Any assistance to their education and successful future is greatly appreciated. We wish Shanya and Demarrio the best for your future endeavors.

Supervisors Bobby Rushing and Demarrio Booth serves as the Jefferson Davis County representatives in the SMPDD. Rushing has also previously served on the board of SMPDD.

To date, the SMPDD has awarded $280,000 in scholarship money to seniors in its 15 county area.
