Greg “Big Daddy” Berry

Funeral services for Mr. Greg “Big Daddy” Berry were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, Aug. 24, 2022, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. David Michael officiated.  Mr. Berry, age 58, passed away late Sunday night, Aug. 21, 2022, at the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss.

The family received friends Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.

Gregory Lee Berry was born April 19, 1964, in Homestead, Florida, to Kayron Jones and Betty Hardin Berry.  A connoisseur of good food, Greg loved to cook.  He will be remembered as a Pitmaster, serving his perfected Barbecue to family and friends alike.  Greg took great pride in being invited to compete in the prestigious “Memphis In May Barbecue Fest”, held in Memphis, Tennessee.  He also enjoyed restoring antique cars as well as rooting for the Dallas Cowboys and also The University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.  Greg worked many years in the Health Care Industry as a Dietary Manager and also operated his own restaurant, Big Daddy’s BBQ.  He was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kirsten Noel Berry, his father, Kayron Berry and his Gram, Mary Worley.

His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of nearly 34 years, Melissa Berry of Prentiss; one son, P. K. (Chelsea) Berry of Hattiesburg; one daughter, Amber (Colton) Blocker of Columbia; his daughter-in-love, Ashlie (Festus) Blocker of Columbia; his mother, Betty Berry of Prentiss; three brothers, Scott (Angel) Berry of Nashville, Tennessee, Wesley Berry of Prentiss, B. J. (Jennifer) Berry of Prentiss and one sister, Debbie (Mike) Greenhill of Madison. The legacy of their Pop Pop will also live on through his four grandchildren, whom he adored; Connor Blocker, Cannon Blocker, Hadley Blocker and Amelia Berry.

Serving as pallbearers were Jeffery Hudson, Homer Holloway, Bruce Magee, Kirk Bass, Johnnie Walker, Clay Traylor, Perry Jones and Scott Polk. Honorary pallbearers included Greg’s nephews, Hunter Berry, Tanner Berry, Jason Berry and Michael Greenhill.
