The National Weather Service in Jackson has confirmed two tornadoes touched down in Jefferson Davis County during several rounds of severe weather on Nov. 29.

The first tornado was brief and in south Jefferson Davis County. It was rated EF-0 and was 0.2 miles long and 70 yards wide.

It lasted for one minute and touched down at 5:08 p.m. just off Ebenezer Church Road. A few trees were uprooted and damaged.

The second tornado touched down in Bassfield a short time later at approximately 5:14 p.m. It was rated EF-1 with 110 mph winds recorded and lasted seven minutes.

At  400 yards wide and 3.9 miles long,  this tornado touched down near the intersection of Bassfield Cemetery Road and McLeod Drive. It tracked east northeast for almost four miles before dissipating just beyond Hosey Mikell Road.

At the start of its path, some tin was taken off a large shed. As it crossed Bass and South Williamsburg Roads, several trees were damaged along with an awning blown down. A brick home had minor roof damage as well.

The tornado peaked in intensity as it crossed Highway 42 where a large metal shed lost 80% of the roof and numerous trees were snapped and uprooted. A more focused core was noted in area tree damage. The tornado dissipated shortly after.
