Lady Jags clinch fourth district championship

The Lady Jaguars captured their fourth district title by defeating the St. Patrick Fighting Irish 56-53 in the 8-3A District Championship last week.

The Lady Jags were the number one seed going into the tournament held at West Marion High School in Foxworth.

They had a bye for the first round, then defeated the Tylertown Lady Chiefs to send them to the championship game.

The team faced the Seminary High School Lady Bulldogs in the first round of the 3A playoffs at Jefferson Davis County High School Monday night.

The Lady Jags defeated the Lady Bulldogs 72-41.

The Lady Jags will play the winner of the Hazlehurst/Forest game. The game will be played Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at Jefferson Davis County High School

The Lady Jaguars are led by 8-3A District Coach of the Year, Tony Woody. Woody is assisted by LaTessia Lee.

Members of the team are Alaila Burton, Ansley Easterling, Jadya Porter, Kevionna Myers, Angel McClendon, Morgan Johnson, Zya Walker, Camaya Boothe, Makierra Hinton, Kendra Adams, Taylor Copeland, Courtney Gardner, LaShayla Fortenberry, D’Zayviunna Peyton, Ellen Porter, Cenniyah Jackson, Kimmoria Hathorn and Layla Hathorn. Manager for the team is Zy’Kerria Armstrong.
