Military Brats honored in JDC

The month of April is known as the Month of the Military Child, with April 30 being National Military Brats Day. 

Both events emphasizing the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Students and school personnel were asked to wear purple to honor the military families.

The JDC MSU Extension Service, JDC Veterans Service Officer Sgt. Joe Bridges and NAACP Veteran Committee 5326 recognized the students in all schools in Jefferson Davis County April 24 and honored those children of military personnel.

Sixteen students were recognized at J. E. Johnson Elementary, five at G. W. Carver,  three at Prentiss Christian, five at Jefferson Davis County Middle School and 12 at Jefferson Davis County High School. All students received gifts, gift bags, certificates and a purple cupcake. MSU Extension Agent Latonya Ramsey-Chandler explained the purpose of Purple Up Day and stated how proud we are of them.

“It was very nice to be able to do a little something for the youth and the communities we serve,” said Ramsey-Chandler.

Other partners contributing were Dorothy Barnes, Tajuan Johnson, Chellie Payne and Janice Martin.
