Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are expected this week and Red Flag warnings are in place for Jefferson Davis County.  A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are occurring.

According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission the combination of dry air moving into the area, gusty conditions and existing dry ground conditions result in a significant wildfire danger. In this environment, wildfires could spread rapidly. Jefferson Davis County remains under a Burn Ban until the Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors can re-evaluate the situation on Nov. 6.

During this critical situation, The Prentiss Fire Department is currently the staging point for out of state forestry crews and also the Mississippi Forestry Commission. Forestry firefighters from Arkansas, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, South Carolina and Mississippi have all been stationed in Prentiss. Local businesses donated food and drinks for the workers.
