Heavy rain and strong wind expected in the county today

Jefferson Davis County is in the elevated flood and wind threat headed into tonight and tomorrow.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, there is a potential for flash flooding with three to six inches of rain expected locally tonight into the early morning hours Tuesday.

Winds are expected to increase throughout the afternoon with sustained winds near 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 miles per hour anticipated.

Gusts as high as 50 miles per hour will develop by early evening and continue as the low passes overnight.  Some downed trees and powerlines are possible. Travel may be difficult for high profile vehicles. Sustained winds around 20 miles per hour with occasional higher gusts will continue through early Tuesday.
