Change in route for this year’s Run for the Roses

For the first time since the inception of the Run for the Roses in Prentiss, there has been a change in the 5K run/walk route. The change provides a smoother route surface and will provide increased safety for the participants. The route will begin in the Regions Bank area and proceed down Columbia Avenue, make a left turn onto Mississippi Street, continuing to Pecan Drive to Fourth Street. At Fourth Street runners and walkers will turn around and return in the same direction they came, ending the race back in the area of Regions Bank. This route eliminates sending runners down the Highway 13 Bypass, down Tyrone Drive and Mt. Carmel Avenue, and will also limit the number of roadway closures for law enforcement officers.

The 38th annual Run for the Roses will be held April 13. The 5K run/walk will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the one-mile run/walk and the quarter-mile fun run.

The 5K registration fee is $25 for participants over 18 and $15 for those 18 and under. The one-mile registration fee is $15 and the fun run for those six and under is $10. The registration fee includes a race shirt. Registration fee proceeds are used to support the college scholarship fund and community improvement projects.
