Memorial services for Dennis Robert Gilbert were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at New Life United Pentecostal Church in Prentiss with the Rev. Duwaine Robbins officiating.

Inurnment followed in the Prentiss Cemetery.

Mr. Gilbert, age 65, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord Monday morning, Feb. 12, 2024, at his home in Prentiss. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

The family received friends Saturday, Feb. 17, at the church, 30 minutes before the funeral service, beginning at 12:30. 

Dennis Robert Gilbert was born on Nov. 15, 1958, in Jefferson Davis County, to James and Lena Dyess Gilbert. He grew up in Prentiss and attended Prentiss High School. 

Dennis’s career as a self-employed carpenter and painter was highly sought after.

Known for his exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail, he transformed countless houses into beautiful homes. In addition, he also used his talent and skill in the service of his Lord and helped with the remodeling of his church.  His dedication and love for his craft were evident in every project he undertook.

Dennis took great pride in his work and found immense satisfaction in bringing people’s visions to life. 

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dennis’s true joy came from being a devoted father to his two boys. He showered them with unconditional love and support throughout their lives. Dennis was actively involved in every aspect of their upbringing, from coaching their sports teams to cheering them on from the sidelines. He instilled in them the values of perseverance, sportsmanship, and the importance of teamwork. 

Animals also held a special place in Dennis’s heart. He had an incredible empathy for creatures big and small and would often take in stray animals that needed love and attention.

His kindness knew no bounds when it came to caring for these animals who found solace under his compassionate care. 

Outside of work and family life, Dennis had a few passions that brought him immense joy. He possessed an outstanding pool shot that made him a force to be reckoned with on the billiards table.

Many fond memories were created as friends gathered around the pool table, captivated by Dennis’s skillful gameplay.

Additionally, he shared a passion for softball and actively participated as a player on the local “Bustin’ Loose” team.

Dennis was a member of the New Life United Pentecostal Church in Prentiss.

In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by his sister, Janice Smith.

His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, Donna Gilbert of Monticello; his sons, Dustin Gilbert of Prentiss, David J. (Karlee) Gilbert of Brookhaven; sister, Sandra Peak of Columbia; brothers, James Allen Gilbert of Prentiss and Joe Wayne Gilbert of Monticello.  The legacy of their Pawpaw will also live on through his two granddaughters, Adalynn and Ashby Gilbert.

Betty Robbins Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Robbins were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Society Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Young officiating. Interment followed in the Society Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Robbins, age 75, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Saturday morning, July 13, 2024, at the Forrest General Hospital. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. The Robbins family received friends one hour before the funeral service, beginning at noon, Tuesday, at Society Hill Baptist Church. Pallbearers included Kelley LeNormand, Cymantha Shellenberger, Mason Robbins, Jenna Robbins, Frank Vice and Frank Vice Jr. Betty Robbins was born on June 6, 1949, in Magee, Mississippi to Walter R. and Margaret Jones Bishop. Mrs. Robbins was a long-time resident of Carson. She and her husband would go on to raise a happy family of six children that would multiply over the years with the addition of in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Robbins loved the country life and will be remembered for not only growing a yard full of beautiful flowers, but also a vegetable garden of which she fed her family. An animal lover, she also had dogs, chickens and hogs over the years. Mrs. Robbins was a member of Society Hill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter R. and Margaret Bishop, her husband, Kenneth Terrell Robbins Sr; her daughter, Pamela Robbins; sisters, Patsy Holden, Margaret  Coble, Linda Hester and her brother, Richard Bishop. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Billie Jo Williamson of Prentiss; sons, Kenny Robbins Jr. (Kathy) of Carson, Mikell Robbins (Kelley) of Palestine, Texas, John Robbins (Nicole) of Sumrall, Daniel Robbins, (Tanya) of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Ray Bishop (Nancy) of Magee and her sister, Myrtis Craig (Ed) of Rossville, Georgia. Mrs. Robbins also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
