Firefighters throughout the county have been battling multiple fires for two days.
Over 800 acres have burned in the southern portion of Jefferson Davis County since yesterday. Firefighters from Prentiss, Clem, Highway 84 West and Tri-Community assisted the Oakvale Fire Department with the battle on Bournham and Palestine Roads just off Highway 13 south.
The fire began Saturday afternoon with 500 acres blazing causing multiple homes, mobile homes and camper trailers to be in danger. Just after noon Sunday, the fire started up again burning an additional 300 plus acres.
The Mississippi Forestry Commission was on scene assisting and said wind across the state has caused an increase in wildfires.
County firefighters also battled fires in the Clem community Saturday which included multiple storage structures and vehicles.
