Highway 184 bridge is now closed; new access available to 84

The Jefferson Davis County Board of Supervisors met in the board room Monday morning for the second meeting of March.  Board attorney Wes Daughdrill offered prayer before the meeting was called to order and agenda approved.

Jason Wambolt with the Town of Bassfield and Emmalyn Jackson with Southern Mississippi Planning and Devolment district discussed the possibility of applying for a USDA Grant for Bassfield.

Lucien Bourgeois and Greg McMurray, with Crews and Associates presented a bond proposal to finance the county’s use tax. No action was taken.

Corey Dale gave an update of the county liability insurance.

Shawn Alford of the Secure Network discussed cyber security coverage for the county and possible changes to the employee handbook.

County engineer Les Dungan announced the March 20 closure of the Highway 184 bridge at Granby Road.

After the supervisors continued to express serious concerns regarding the safety of the area residents, MDOT agreed to provide access to Granby Road from Highway 84 East to authorized and emergency vehicles.

It will take a year to replace the bridge on 184 and with no new access point first responders would have wasted valuable time by traveling miles out of the way to reach residents in the event of an emergency.

The board approved signing an order requesting an addition to the State Aid Road System on McPhail Road in District 1 for bridge repairs. with federal and state money

Board accountant Cathy Slocum and attorney Wes Daughdrill gave end of the month reports.

In other board news, the board approved the following without opposition before entering into executive session and adjourning:

Approved minutes.

Approved spreading into the Minutes Certificate of the Department of Revenue. Approving Real and Personal Roll.

Approved Purchase Clerk obtaining quotes for camera system for the Sheriff Department administration building.

Approved spreading into the Minutes Employee Action Forms for the Board of Supervisors, Sheriff’s Department and District 4.

Approved employees attending conventions and meetings.

Approved payment of invoice to Mississippi Public Entity Workers Comp Trust for $2,254.00.

Approved credit card report and payment.

Approved claims.
