Over 20 middle school students participated in the inaugural Explore Welding class held at the Dennis W. Fortenberry Career Center in Carson.
The class was specifically designed for middle school students to introduce them to the possibilities and benefits of acquiring this valuable skill.
“By providing middle school students with the opportunity to learn the basics of welding in a safe and supervised environment, we aim to spark their interest and passion for this trade,” said Director Shelia Jefferson.
The welding class was held June 7 and 8 and was free of charge to all participants. The class was taught by experienced and certified instructors who taught the fundamental techniques of welding through hands-on projects.
Students received certificates and swag bags from Ingalls. Johnny Holley and Jacob Walden received $50 gift cards for their skills in cutting and welding.
