Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness, USA in Oakvale, for Deacon Earnest (E. N.) Newsome Jr. 93, who died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Covington County Hospital in Collins.
Elder Maxie Lowe officiated with interment following at Palestine Baptist Church in Oakvale.
Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Earnest Newsome was born to the late Syrenthia Walker Newsome and Earnest Newsome Sr.
He grew up in Jefferson Davis County and attended Progress Scholl, he later joined the Church of Christ Holiness USA. He was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1951, serving as a truck driver during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal.
He relocated to Gary, Indiana after his military service, where he worked as a crane operator at the Steel Mill.
He was married to Lue Jean Moore in 1965, they were the parents of two sons, Earnest Newsome III and Samuel Newsome.
He moved back to Mississippi and continued to drive trucks. He was a dedicated deacon at Christ Temple Church of Christ Holiness, USA.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Elder Bruce Johnson, siblings, Essie Nichols, Edward B. Johnson, Doris J. Starks, son, Earnest Newsome III.
He is survived by his: wife, Lue Jean Newsome; son, Samuel (Kimberly) Newsome; grandchildren; Kobe Alexander and Sydney Newsome; great-grandson, Landon Carter and many other relatives and friends.
