Single car crash kills one on Hwy 42

A man was killed Thursday night just outside the city limits of Bassfield in a one-car accident. Damon Edwards, 22, of Donaldsonville, Georgia died of injuries received when he was ejected from the front of the vehicle after the crash, according to Bassfield Fire Chief Bill Matthews. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, AAA Ambulance and Bassfield Fire Department were all called to the scene of the accident. Edwards had been traveling from Hattiesburg on Highway 42 and was near the Thompson Athletic Complex where the accident occurred.

Emergency medical personnel determined Edward’s had suffered cardiac arrest. He was moved to the ballfield for pickup by LifeFlight and airlifted to Forrest General Hospital.
