Chamber Partnership honors businesses and students at annual banquet

The Jefferson Davis County Chamber Partnership held their annual banquet Tuesday, March 25, at the Rosenwald Building in Prentiss.

Guest speaker was the director of the Mississippi Development Authority, Brent Christensen.

“We were very privileged and honored to have Mr. Christensen with us. He recently spent a good portion of time working to ensure the Foley Products Company materialized in Jefferson Davis County creating much needed jobs for this area,” said Partnership Director Ben Hamby.

“We sincerely thank him for his personal involvement,” Hamby added.

Entertainment for the evening was singer Tonya Youngblood Polk of Madison, formerly of Prentiss.

At the conclusion of the evening, Partnership  Director Ben Hamby presented the Business of the Year awards to two outstanding businesses in the county: Norwood Medical Supply of Prentiss and Sip-N-Eat of Bassfield.

Owned by Von Norwood,  Norwood Medical Supply carries a diverse group of products including durable medical equipment, diabetic supplies and shoes, wound care and orthopedics.

Norwood Medical Supply services a 100 mile radius extending from Jefferson Davis to Hinds and Forrest counties.

Norwood’s main purpose for starting her business was to fulfill her desire to help the community by providing medical services.

Bobby L. Wilson opened Sip-n-Eat in 2012 and also owns the Bassfield Shell Station.

Both businesses average a total of 17 employees.

Wilson exemplifies his support of Jefferson Davis County by being a great sponsor for various functions, is very involved in Bassfield and Prentiss community sports, and writes the Bassfield sports section for The Prentiss Headlight.

Wilson says the purpose for opening Sip-N-Eat was to fill an essential need of the Bassfield community.

STAR Students awarded  at the banquet were  Oliviyah Farris from Bassfield High School and Sarah Harrell from Prentiss Christian School.

STAR Student Awards are presented to the senior with the highest ACT score.
