Gregory A. Blackwell, age 53, of Prentiss, died November 23, 2014, at his home. Funeral services were held November 28 at Memory Chapel with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jones County. Rev. Randy McLeod officiated.

Greg was a graduate of West Jones High School and attended Jones County Junior College and was a graduate of Commonwealth Mortuary School.

Mr. Blackwell was formerly employed at Saulters Moore Funeral Home and at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. He served Jeff Davis County and the City of Prentiss in various positions. He served as deputy coroner of Jeff Davis County, served three terms as coroner, was a member of the 7th District Coroners Association, county fire marshal, and was a crime scene investigator. Mr. Blackwell was a past president of the Lions Club of Prentiss, and a member of Houston Road Baptist Church.

His grandparents, O.C. & Pearl Wigington and W.P. & Edwina Blackwell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his parents, Carolyn and Don Blackwell, Sr. of Laurel; brother, Donnie (Saundra) Blackwell; niece, Julia (Josh) Lawson; nephew, Christopher (Katie) Blackwell; three great-nephews, Robert Strickland, Brayden and Jaxon Blackwell; and Ruth Bridges of Prentiss.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Blackwell, Christopher Blackwell, Brent Dickerson, Kenny Sellers, Mark Wigington, and Kent Mauldin. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Wigington and Mike Wigington.
