If you know someone interested in serving on our Farm Service Agency County Committee for Jefferson Davis-Lawrence County, now is the time to submit that person’s name as a nominee for the 2016 County Committee Elections. From June 15, through August 1, you can nominate a candidate.

Almost anyone participating or cooperating in an FSA program – and is of legal voting age – can be nominated.

Holding Elections in 2016, are Local Administrative Areas 4 and 5.

LAA 4 is the geographic portion of Jefferson Davis County west of State Highway 13 and south of US Highway 84 and the geographic portion of Lawrence County east of Highway 587 and south of US Highway 84.

LAA 5 is the geographic portion of Lawrence County west of Highway 587 and south of US Highway 84.

Also, organizations representing socially disadvantaged minorities and women farmers or ranchers may also nominate candidates.

To be valid, the nomination form must be signed by the person being nominated, indicating agreement to serve if elected, and returned to the FSA County Office or postmarked by Aug. 1, 2016. The county committee elections are held by mail and ballots will be mailed to eligible LAA voters beginning Nov. 7. Voted ballots must be returned to the FSA County Office on or before Dec. 5, or be postmarked by Dec. 5.
