Mrs. Shirley Rose Williams, 72, died Saturday April 1, 2017, at the Lawrence County Nursing Home in

Monticello.  Services for Mrs. Williams were held on Saturday April 8, 2017, at the Monticello First

Baptist Church, with Pastor Larry D. Lenoir, Sr. officiating.  Burial was in the Monticello First Bap-

tist Church Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Ardell and Inez Sutton of rural Lawrence County.  At an early age she joined the Monticello First Baptist Church and remained a member until her passing.  Mrs. Williams was an active member in the Women’s Mission and other auxilliaries until her health be-

gan to fail.  As a young woman she graduated from McCullough High School prior to attending Alcorn

State University.  Mrs. Williams married Johnny Williams of Lawrence County, and to this union four children were added.

Mrs. Williams’ survivors include her husband of 41 years, Johnny Williams; three sons, Gerald Sutton,

Vincent Garry, both of Monticello, and Calvin  (Falana) Green of Wesson; one daughter, Jonlyn (Ust-

inov) Hatcher of Monticello; two sisters, Caroline McGowan of Monticello and Thelma M. Cook of

Canton, Ohio; one aunt, Helen Cole of New Orleans, Louisiana; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
