Funeral services were held Feb. 9, 2019, at New Apostolic Church in
Bassfield for Mrs. Leona Smith, 61, who died Feb. 3, 2019, at her
residence. Elder Freddie Jackson officiated with burial following in
Wheeler Cemetery in Bassfield.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Leona Smith was born to the late Hester Batimon and Leon Herring
in New Orleans, Louisiana. She moved to Bassfield at an early age and
joined New Jerusalem Apostolic Church.
She was preceded in death by: husband, Walter Smith; two brothers,
Henry Batimon and Kenny Herring; sister, Dorothy Brown; two sons, Leon
Herring and Isaac Herring.
She is survived by: stepmother, Beverly Herring; three daughters,
Donna Herring, Deborah Herring and Sharita Herring; six brothers, Leon
Bateman, Larry Eaton, Robert Herring, Christopher Herring, Willie
Herring and Roy Herring; six sisters, Evelyn Hooker, Rose Price,
Esther Herring, Mary Dawson, Evelylean Ross and LeAnn Herring; 16
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; special friends, Deandra
Clavo and Jamie Preston; many other relatives and friends.
