Charles “Charlie” Edward Bass

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Edward Bass were conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel. Rev. Randy Gardner officiated. Interment followed in Graves Cemetery in Sumrall.  Mr. Bass, age 89, passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 12, 2022, at the Wesley-Merit Health Medical Center in Hattiesburg.  Mr. Bass loved his family and will be missed by them as well as many friends.

Saulters Moore Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Edward Bass was born on Aug. 20, 1932, in Jefferson Davis County to Oliver and Zelma Dyess Bass.  Mr. Bass loved his job as a Professional Truck Driver and was privileged to travel over most of the 50 United States during his career.  One of the things he was passionate about in his younger years was running Beagles and Fox Hunting.  He also enjoyed growing a garden and he loved homemade Butter Finger ice cream.  Mr. Bass was of the Baptist Faith.

Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Zelma Bass; his wife of over 50 years, Shelby Jean Bass and his brothers, Leroy ”Bud” and L.B. Bass.

His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter Debbie Bass Istre of Hattiesburg; two sons, Wayne Bass (Debbie) of Bassfield and Eddie Bass (Kathy) of Sumrall; two sisters, Christine Dyess and Lucille Dyess, both of Carson; one brother, Hubert Bass of Monticello; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family received friends Tuesday evening, Feb. 15, 2022, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.
