The Bulldogs came into Friday’s game very motivated. The game had big playoff implications. Prentiss would beat the St. Andrews Saints 28-9.
In the first quarter, Prentiss got the game’s first possession on their 33. The offense would march the ball down the field very efficiently. O’Ryan Hooker would power in a four yard touchdown to end the drive off successfully. The defense would force the Saints into a three and out. With the ball on the 20, Prentiss would try moving it down the field again. After a string of three penalties, the Bulldogs would punt the ball. The quarter would end with Prentiss on top 6-0.
In the second quarter, the Saints would move the ball more effectively. On 3rd down, the Saints would score on a double reverse pass that fooled the whole Bulldog’s defense. This would make the score 6-6. Prentiss fans would rejoice quickly, after an 86-yard kickoff return by Dwight Peters. The quarter would end at 13-6 in favor of Prentiss.
In the third quarter, St. Andrews would have first possession. They would lead an impressive drive that would result in a field goal. On the Bulldog’s first play of the 3rd quarter, Martez Brown fumbled the ball. Although the Saints had excellent field position, the Bulldog’s defense would not allow a score. This quarter would end 13-9.
The fourth quarter would begin with the Saints’ quarterback throwing an interception to Anthony Walker. Prentiss would do a heavy dose of running to drain the clock. Martez Brown would make up for earlier fumble and score a touchdown. The Saints needed a quick score to put them back in the game. Anthony Walker would once again intercept another pass to stop the little momentum that St. Andrews had. After Donte Ford’s 19-yard touchdown run, all the hopes of the Saints would be killed.
The game would end 28-9 with the Bulldogs on the winning side. That makes two wins in a row for Prentiss High. Their record is now 4-6 and 2-2 in district. After the game Coach McNair said “Offensive and defense were both solid,” and also “Glory to God, thank you Jesus for the win.’’ Prentiss will play their last regular season game Friday against the McLaurin Tigers at 7:00.
