PHS basketball season comes to a close

As the end of season approaches, Prentiss girls and boys are seeding in district tournament. On Tuesday Prentiss traveled to Velma Jackson.

The girls were looking to tie the season series between them and the Falcons. Velma Jackson started out hot and making almost all their shots. Prentiss could not keep up with their pace of scoring. So going into halftime, the Lady Falcons were up big. Prentiss would come out after halftime looking like a totally different team. They would fight back to tie the game up with 3 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. With free throws and good defense, Prentiss would finish the game strong and win 53-49.

Prentiss boys were looking to bounce back from the embarrassing loss to the Falcons at home. The started slow and close. The score was 8 – 12 at the end of the 1st quarter. In the second, Velma Jackson came out more aggressive and slightly pulled away. Prentiss would look to come out and stop the run in the second half. Velma Jackson would force turnovers and take completely over the game. The game was closer than what the score at the end showed. The final score was 69-38 in favor of the Falcons.

James Hawthorne – 17 pts

On Friday, Prentiss traveled to Florence. The bulldogs were looking to ruin their senior night. Prentiss started off playing discipline. The game was close throughout the first quarter. Florence started making shots and getting turnovers before halftime to give them a lead. The second half wouldn’t be even close. Florence would blowout the Lady Bulldogs.

The boy’s game was very energetic. Prentiss, although doubtful to win this game, would come out and play great basketball. Prentiss would be down at halftime by ten. The bulldogs pulled within 5 points when Donte Ford hit a three pointer at the end of the 3rd. Donte Ford tied the game up 56 in the fourth quarter. But Prentiss couldn’t make shots down the stretch. Florence won the game 79-69.

Come out on Friday as Prentiss host its Senior Night. They will play the McLaurin Tigers.
